My Favorite Posts

With two books behind me, I’m looking forward to posting more project ideas on this blog. Some of my favorite posts this year are project oriented and some of them are theory. Here are a few of my favorite that you may not have seen yet.

Articles and Book Published in 2016

The Big Book of Makerspace Projects came out in October 2016. It’s been a blast to see its warm reception by makers and librarians alike. Aaron and I would love to see what you are making from it, so make sure you tag your creations with #bigmakerbook to share with our growing maker community!

Maker Theory Book

Aaron and I have TWO books coming out in 2017! First a theory book that led to a lot of interviews with great tinkerers, makers, and librarians co-written with the awesome Diana Rendina. It should be out late summer and is being published by ABC Clio.

Maker Project Book

Aaron and I are having a blast making and combining project ideas for this Makey Makey focused book that will be a part of the Evil Genius series published by TAB DIY (a McGraw Hill imprint)! Projects will range from simple to complex and really take you and your Makey Makey #beyondthebanana! You can pre-order the book now, but you’ll have to wait until the summer to start Makey Makey-ing these projects!

Author Signing at Mini Maker Faire this Sat and SXSWedu News!

Saturday November 5th, Aaron Graves and I will be signing our Big Book of Makerspace Projects at the Lincoln Park Barnes and Noble at 5:00 pm. Come out and have us sign your copy of your book and enjoy the mini-maker faire at B&N too! We’d love to meet you and talk about making stuff!

I’m also excited to announce that I’ll be joining Jay Silver in Austin this spring and leading a Core Convo around Invention Literacy at SXSWedu! See our session info here! And if you haven’t read up on Invention Literacy, read Jay’s original article that changed the way I view making in our makerspace. Then read up on how I used this concept to collaborate with an awesome teacher at my school in post one, two, and three of my three part series on Invention Literacy!

Plus, I’ll be speaking about this maker-focused PBL at the National Writing Project and other ways of incorporating making and literacy and collaborating with teachers! Can’t wait to see old friends and make new ones! (I was a writing project member in 2005, an avid teacher consultant for many years and used to annually attend this conference, so I’m stoked they invited me to speak at this one!)
