20 Makey Makey Projects for the Evil Genius is out! It is in full glorious color and in it we share fun project ideas on how to integrate lots of maker tools for your physical computing whims. We hope you have fun taking our ideas further with the ultimate digital duct-tape – the MAKEY MAKEY! To celebrate, Aaron and I are going to giveaway not one, not two, but THREE signed copies of our books and some Makey Makey swag! 🙂

To win the giveaway all you have to do is share this post and make a comment on this blog post about how you hope to take Makey Makey #beyondthebanana this school year. Our book is written with makers in mind, so you do not have to be a teacher or museum educator to qualify. Anyone can make cool stuff with Makey Makey! 🙂

  1. My students are ready to #beyondthebanana ! This Sept we are planning on combining their Math, Science, Tech and LA (and maybe more!) in fun and exciting ways! They had already started talking about how they could incorporate MaKey MaKey! #breakdownthewalls #relevantlearning #getoutofthebox

  3. I’m going to have students sketch a drawing and then use Makey Makey/Scratch to create sounds effects to go with different portions of the picture. I would love to win this giveaway to inspire more ideas for my classroom!

  4. We have a couple already and my students are ready to be evil geniuses! The library is really not conducive to keep bananas around all the time🤓… ready to move beyond and use this great toll to its full potential.

  5. I would love to win this! Though I’m entering my 6th year as a librarian, this coming school year marks my first at a new school and we are looking to pilot a makerspace program, so I am hoping to do a lot of experimenting with makerspace stuff in the library this year. Thanks for posting, even if I don’t win the giveaway, I’ll have to get my hands on this book/kit!

  6. I’m psyched to take the makey makeys #beyondthebanana this fall with STEM camp kids. I’m hoping to incorporate makeys into some Rube Goldberg machines to bring computer programming into the wacky devices.

  7. My students are ready to use Makey Makey #beyondthebanana for the upcoming school year which will be Maker-filled as our hopes and dreams of a library makerspace take flight. I am interested in the many ways my students can utilize the Makey Makey ibut the spin art project will be a great sending off point to start!

  10. The possibilities with MaKey MaKey are endless going #beyondthebanana (although what a fun intro it is!). I plan on using it with coins for adding coins to practice payment in maths and love the idea of interactive posters across all subject areas and linking with design thinking

  11. I’ve been asking all our library visitors what they would like to make/do in our maker space if there were no limits and I’ve been showing them the YouTube video to get their creativity going. This year I hope to go #beyondthebanana by hosting Maker Mondays to let them play with our equipment and design a project for themselves either independently or while collaborating.

  12. I was inspired by all of the early ideas shared in the Makey group. I am looking forward to going #beyondthebanana with a new group of teachers. I plan to try out more ideas (once I have a copy!) and share in workshops along with facilitating some collaborative projects across various grade levels (K-8). I want to use more features of the Makey (e.g., back ports) and try to think outside the banana, so to speak 😉

  13. Our tech lab students will.be so excited to #gobeyondthebanana by making their own instrument and then bringing it to life with Makey Makey! We also plan to have interactive posters around our library or in conjunction with PBIS!

  17. I love your work! I am going to use #evilgenius and #beyondthebanana to have students create more makey makey projects. I would love to encourage some to 3D print game controllers and include the makey makeys for adaptive technology for #inclusion.

  21. We are new to Makey and I will be starting a Girls STEAM club in our 6-8 middle school. I would like to include literature with the Makey in order to bring “new life” to reading.

  30. My students are ready to go #beyondthebanana. Makey Makeys are the perfect device to offer hands-on learning to any level of student–from AP to LDL. I fully plan to bring them into a traveling #CRAfTLab this year and would love to create some Makey Makey Evil Geniuses at my school.

  32. I attended one of your trainings provided by my district last year and absolutely fell in love with all things makerspaces including the makey makey. As a first year librarian, I knew I had to give my students these opportunities to grow, create, and problem solve. I ordered some makey makeys for my library but struggle with implementing them with my teachers and students. Your book will definitely give us a start in using this amazing tool to support the curriculum!

  34. I have teased and tormented my students with my one personal Makey Makey for the past two years, allowing them to play and tinker and explore, but not take Makey Makey to the next level. Come next August I have 20 arriving in the international order ready to let their imagination, creativity and awesomeness explode. Making it Evil will just make it even more Awesome!

  37. The Makey Makey has been an automatic hit with our middle schoolers. We’ve gotten the basics done- creating game controllers w/ Scratch and are ready to go #beyondthebanana. Love to learn how to use the back of the Makey Makey to bring in more coding and design into it! Please pick me! @techmonstah

  38. The Makey Makey is one of the most popular items at our makerspace. I’m always looking for ways to go #beyondthebanana. We’ve made carrot chimes, beatboxes, many musical instruments, and game controllers. I want to take it to the next level in our camps.

  39. We are starting a Makerspace in our new Junior High Library, and I’m so excited! Our students will love all the cool things you can do #beyondthebanana with Makey Makey, although we will probably start with bananas. And fruit snacks. And maybe chicken rings from lunch to see if they rescusitate. I’d like to see if my students can figure out how to smash Arduino and other coding/programming kits with Makey Makey. I bet they will invent all kinds of evil genius stuff, mwah-ha-ha-ha! Thanks for your inspiration!

  44. Last year I had a student truly go “beyond the banana” by building a “sphero soccer” game where if the sphero rolled over the “bump” at the entrance to the goal, it closed the circuit connected by the Makey Makey and programmed in Scratch. Scratch was programmed to play a crowd cheer noise and award a point when this happened. I would love to see more of this with my kids – integrating many different tools together to make something bigger and better than what we’ve done in the past.

  47. I am so ready to take my school #beyondthebanana this year! I want students to take the time to come up with the most inventive, creative use for the makeymakey and then have the rest of the school vote for the best “invention.” I love this product and can’t wait to be able to use it!

  49. Love the sample project! My makerspace runs in conjunction with my fixed-schedule library classes. This project can be set up and done during that time, plus it has the benefit of a physical take away, which kids love. Thanks! Looking forward to the rest of the book.
